Things are far from quiet in the town of Hamley again. A winter blizzard brings stranger Andrew Stone to Hamley Public Library and Hailey Hanson is sure the man is up to no good. She becomes even more sure when Andrew returns after the blizzard, taunting Hailey with information about a missing young woman in the area. Despite the objections of her now steady boyfriend, Officer Ryan Thomas, Hailey follows Andrew's leads in search of what happened to the missing woman and ends up in a mind game with a man who may or may not be a killer.
Deadly Deceptions Hailey Hanson Mysteries Book 2 edition by Annmarie Cleversey Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
The characters show possibility for development. Two decent loving police officers, two decent lovable librarians, a loving family and a loving lovers family, for the heroine, and a small town in Ohio. The problem is that the author needed a mystery in which to involve these characters and chose poorly. For no visible reason in the character or situation of the heroine, she is made to appear witless,Too bad. The book is still readable, there is occasion to fear for her safety, to sympathize with her plight, to root for the Good Guys; there is just not much occasion to respect her intelligence or common sense.
If this is going to be a series, I can recommend the book as a lead-in to what might easily become much more appealing. In itself it serves well as an introduction to these characters, the library setting and the small town feeling. I even find myself rooting for the author and hoping she will find a better mystery theme about which to weave her story.

Deadly Deceptions Hailey Hanson Mysteries Book 2 edition by Annmarie Cleversey Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
First of all, if you don't know that this is a series please check out the author's other books. This is the second of three.
NOTE If you like "clean" romance books light on the mystery, no swearing, no sexual situations & little gore then this is the series for you.
As I stated in my other reviews, the actual mystery is interesting but there is so little of it. The characters seem like they are out of the 1950's and are of course, adorable, beautiful & handsome. They just don't seem "real". There is way too much use of the word "Hamley". I don't think it is necessary to use the word over & over. Once we know where they are located there is no need to mention it all the time. I also get sick of the long hug & long kiss stuff.
Hailey the main character comes off as not too bright in my world. She is always promising Ryan, her gorgeous cop boyfriend that she will call him if trouble comes around. Does she? No. Yet he always manages to be there so that she can cry on his shoulder because she almost gets killed.
I don't know. If I was bored I might read the next book in the series but I would have to be bored. It is not that I love gore/violence, swearing &/or sexual content. It is that everyone is just so 1950's. The parents, siblings, friends are all just so perfect it makes me want to gag.
If you love very "light" mysteries full of perfect people in a small town atmosphere that fell in love at first sight then this is the series for you.
